Repeat Prescribing Policy - Guidance for Patients

  • All patients on repeat medication prescribed by a previous practice must make an appointment with a Dr or Practice Nurse.

  • Repeat prescriptions have a tear-off slip which lists the repeat medication you are taking. Please keep this slip in a safe place and use it to request your next supply of repeat medication.

  • Please give the practice a minimum of 72 hours notice prior to collecting your repeat prescription. (Excludes weekends and bank/local holidays)

  • Lost prescriptions will be reprinted at the discretion of the Dr. Prescription items of an addictive nature will not be replaced.

  • Medication reviews take place on a 3, 6 & 12 monthly basis, patients who do not attend a medication review, will be issued one further months supply if authorised by the doctor of their medication and the opportunity to make another appointment with the Doctor/Nurse. No further issues will be made beyond this point. It is the patient’s responsibility to ensure that they attend a medication review in order to continue the repeat medication.

  • Patients on long term medication can arrange with a local pharmacist for the prescription to be picked up and dispensed. Reception can provide you with more information on this service.

  • Patients taking oral contraception will be required to see a doctor/nurse. There are ‘Drop in Clinics’ between 11.00 – 11.30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and Tuesday between 10.30 – 11.50am. If this is not convenient, appointments can be made with the practice nurse/doctor at any other time, or you can attend a Family Planning Clinic of your choice.

  • When collecting your prescription you may be asked to provide identity. You will be asked to check that all items requested have been issued. You are advised to do so before leaving the premises.

  • Prescription requests will not be taken over the telephone.

  • Please place all prescription requests in the box provided at reception. If you cannot deliver it by hand, we will accept postal/fax/email requests. A stamped addressed envelope will be required for any posting of prescriptions.

  • Repeat medication can also be ordered through My Health Online. Reception can provide you with more information on this service.
