Making an Appointment

You may have an appointment with a doctor of your choice. If the problem is more pressing, you can obtain an appointment within 3 working days with the next available doctor. A separate appointment for each family member is required when seeing the doctor.

Student doctors visit the practice. They may sit in with the doctor and occasionally examine patients. You will be informed when a medical student will be present during your consultation with the doctor at the time you book your appointment. If you do not wish a medical student present, please inform the receptionist and she will give you an alternative appointment.

Locum doctors are employed at the practice during busy periods.

If you have several problems or a complex problem, please tell the receptionist and she will try and arrange a longer appointment.

If you require an appointment for urgent medical attention, please telephone before 10.00 a.m. These emergency appointments can only be booked on the day. You may be assessed by our practice nurse who may provide advice, medication or referral to the doctor as appropriate. A limited number of same day appointments are also available with the duty doctor. We would be grateful if you would be brief and discuss only the urgent problem

Patients may be accompanied to their appointment by a carer and/or advocate and/or assistant.

Patients may contact the practice and book appointments by telephone.

Cancelling Appointments

If You Cannot Keep Your Appointment

Please consider others and help us to reduce the number of missed appointments by remembering to contact the surgery to cancel an appointment that you no longer require.

Your appointment can be cancelled day or night. When the practice is closed, the telephone system facilitates appointment cancellation.

Your phone call could make a difference and enable someone to access a doctor sooner by putting another patient in your place.

Telephone Advice

The practice has a procedure in place enabling patients to speak to a doctor or a nurse on the telephone, during the working day.

You will be advised that between 11.00 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. the duty doctor will be available to talk on the telephone after morning surgery is over. The receptionist will assess whether the matter would be best discussed at a consultation with the doctor and an appointment will be offered.

The practice nurses do not have a specific time in their working day to take patient telephone calls; it depends on their appointment list. If they are not free to talk to you they will get back to you at an appropriate time during the same day.
