Adult Immunisation

A tetanus booster is required by all. The flu vaccine is offered every October to all patients 65 years and over and those who fall into ‘At Risk’ groups such as diabetes, heart disease, lung or kidney disease.

Pneumovax is administered for protection against bacteria that often causes pneumonia. It is offered to all patients who are 65 years and over.

We offer to students previously unimmunised, Meningitis C and the second dose of the MMR.

Antenatal

Antenatal Clinic is held on a Friday afternoon. The initial booking appointment is with the midwife.

Information about antenatal care is available at reception.

Asthma

We aim to monitor and improve your asthma management annually.
We are happy to advise you on your asthma at any time, simply request an appointment with the practice nurse.
Your annual review examination will include:

  • General Health Screen

  • Inhaler Technique

  • Peak flow rate

  • Medication and immunisation review

Cervical Cytology

Cervical smears are carried out every 3 years. Ladies will automatically be invited between the ages of 20 and 64 years, to attend the surgery when their smear is due. The smear will be carried out by one of our practice nurses.
Please do not ignore your recall letter.
Chlamydia screening may be offered at this time.

Child Health

Routine Immunisations and developmental check are carried out
every Thursday, between 1.30 p.m. and 3.00 p.m.

The doctor and health visitor will be present to discuss any problems.

Diabetes

Diabetes monitoring is performed at the practice and in some cases shared with scheduled hospital visits. Dr Pathy is the lead GP in this area and our practice nurses support him.

Practice Nurses offer screening for diabetes. If required please make an appointment at reception.

Family Planning and ‘Drop In Clinic’

We offer advice and guidance on the full range of contraceptive care. We are able to provide the oral contraceptive pill, the contraceptive injection and emergency contraception.

Referral can be made to specialist clinics for methods not available at the surgery and for certain sexual health screening tests.

The ‘Drop In Clinic’ is held Monday to Thursday, 11.00 a.m. – 11.40 a.m.

Health Screening

Our practice nurses offer a ‘Health Screening’ service which includes urine analysis, height, weight and blood pressure check. A simple blood test is carried out for cholesterol and diabetes screening.

Dietary advice is available on request.

When booking an appointment, please supply the receptionist with the reason for your booking and an appropriate time slot will be given.

Smoking Cessation

If you are a smoker, we strongly advise that you stop. Please contact ‘Smokers Helpline Wales’ on 0800 169 0 169.

Advice and support is available by appointment with a practice nurse.

Travel Immunisations

When going abroad on holiday or business you may need the protection of travel vaccinations and malaria tablets. Most vaccinations are administered without charge with the exception of Hep B and Yellow Fever. Please see the practice nurse by appointment.

Other Nursing Services

Our practice nurses provide many routine services which include:

  • Ear syringing
  • Stitch removal
  • Dressings
  • Blood tests
  • Routine management of chronic diseases

All of these services are available by appointment. When booking an appointment, please supply the receptionist with the reason for your booking and an appropriate time slot will be given.
